The first volunteer beach clean-up by “ACT FOR EARTH” took place at Agios Konstantinos beach
The event was successfully completed, led by CNN Greece in collaboration with the Athanasios C. Laskaridis Charitable Foundation
On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the first volunteer beach clean-up of Agios Konstantinos beach in Oropos was successfully completed, as part of CNN Greece's "ACT FOR EARTH" initiative, in collaboration with the Athanasios C. Laskaridis Charitable Foundation.
A team of local volunteer residents, municipal authorities of Oropos, as well as volunteers from DPG and members of the Athanasios C. Laskaridis Charitable Foundation, actively participated in the beach clean-up. The waste collected from just a part of the vast beach area was recorded and weighed, highlighting the pollution’s extent. Specifically, a grand total of 62 kilogrammes and 2,845 items of waste were collected. The collected waste mainly included cigarette butts, small plastic pieces, personal hygiene items, straws and paper fragments.
Additionally, part of the waste collected will be used by artist Dimitris Liosis to create a piece of art, which will showcase the value of material reuse. The artwork will be presented in 2025 at the Act For Earth Summit.
This initiative is part of the adoption of Agios Konstantinos beach in Oropos, which involves a series of four coastal clean-ups, aiming at raising public awareness about coastal pollution and sustainable waste management. The clean-ups will carry on with scheduled activities in November 2024, February, and April 2025.
